On one of my trips to Marshalls heaven, I found a pair of garden lamps. At that time I was pregnant with my second baby and thought that this could be transform in lamps for her room. But how to do that? Well, here is how I did it.

First of all you’ll need these materials. As always here is the list:

1. electrical cord


2. plug


3. brass loop with wire way


4. fixture cross bar


5. pipe nipple


6. porcelain socket


7. lamp bulb (I used an Ecosmart compact fluorescent 14 watt (60 watt))


8. garden lamp

• First drill a hole on the handle so the electrical cord can pass through.


• To support the handle, put a fixture cross bar underneath it. 


• I wanted the lamp bulb to be inside the lamp vase and not directly under the handle, so I put a pipe nipple (which is a hallow small metal tube almost 3”) under the fixture cross bar. 


• To secure the pipe nipple, we put a brass loop with a wire way (a hole in the center so I could pass the electrical cord) on top of the lamp handle and fastened them together.

In this photo you can see the order in which the parts were assemble. This was taken before introducing the electrical cord. 

• Now, pass the cord through the brass loop, the handle, the cross bar, the pipe nipple and lets install it to the porcelain socket. I found this easy tutorial to do this part.

You can find an electrical cord in a set which includes the plug. I bought these apart since I didn’t have an idea of how long they will hang from the ceiling.

So from my garden, with love to my dear Catalina. I must confess this seemed like a lot of work, but it was not. At the end the results were worth it. See how beautiful they look on and off. Perhaps I’m going to cover the white cable. What do you think?
